Reimagining school-based mental health: A holistic systemic approach

Through evidence-based programs and practices, using a holistic approach to improving student mental health through collaborative communication has been proven beneficial for the entire system. Using real-life examples and data from school-based programs at a Bay Area behavioral health organization, Maritza will empower school staff to “put on their oxygen mask” and learn effective strategies to implement their own programs to support families, educators, and the community.

Effective leadership helps maintain wellness in EVERY
organization. Participants will be able to address difficult issues, problems, and
situations, to resolve problems in the initial stages, helping schools and organizations
build and maintain a positive work culture. Join us to learn strategies and apply tools
that will improve your leadership/management style, build trust, collaboration, while
creating a sense of safety within your school or organization.
1. Participants will be able to see ways that they can improve their own leadership by 1).
Assessing and working on themselves 2) ""Being the Message"" to staff and co-workers
3) Developing a ""Run-to-the-Fire"" mentality, 4) Learning to manage your emotions, 5) ""Don't Make It Worse"". Participants will learn ways to improve communication, deliver bad news respectfully, and manage/resolve conflicts.

Dive into the groundbreaking WellSpace initiative with us, an endeavor spearheaded by the Orange County Department of Education's (OCDE) WellEd team, in collaboration with Children’s Health of Orange County (CHOC) and other esteemed partners. Uncover the impact behind ""spaces of calm"" or WellSpaces, thoughtfully woven into school-communities to uplift the mental and emotional well-being of every student.

This transformative session goes beyond mere infrastructure. Together, we will explore how the initiative is tailored for our most vulnerable populations, including students and families experiencing homelessness and those in the foster care system. By offering targeted support beyond conventional school settings, we are reshaping the narrative of comprehensive support and curating environments dedicated to improving the health, well-being and educational outcomes of all students. Participants will increase awareness on developing spaces of calm within their school communities, and acquire information related to lessons learned, considerations, and practices to support sustainability of these spaces in school communities.
